FAQ
Who can benefit from personal training? Anyone!
What does a personal trainer do? There is no set standard for what a personal trainer does, however, the following describes what I beleive a trainer should do. Perform fitness evaluations and make recommendations, design programs, teach proper mechanics for injury prevention and efficiency, educate clients to be independent, provide motivation, basic nutritional guidance, continuously evaluate progress and makes changes as necessary. Personal trainers should have a network of doctors and health professionals to refer clients to as necessary. Written records of sessions and progress should be kept.
What does your typical training session look like? That depends on the client. Not any one training session is the same. People have different goals, body types and personalities. Each training session reflects that individualality. Each session will begin with dynamic movements as a warm-up, followed by the main strength training exercises, always ending with static stretching. The stuff in the middle, including the interaction between the client and myself, is all about that client’s individual needs.
Do I need an evaluation to start? An evaluation is not required, however, it is highly recommended prior to beginning a new program. During an evaluation I collect pertient written, verbal and visual information from you, as well as perform specific testing. The evaluation is a tool that will allow me to develop a very personalized program that will award you faster results. Evaluations can be used as a great motivational tool. You can watch your results happen on paper. You can see where you started and how far you have come.
I do not have any exercise equipment, can you still train me in my home? Absolutely! That is my specialty. As a matter of fact, if you did have exercise equipment such as machines, I probably wouldn’t use them. I use medicine balls, swiss balls, tubing, bands, dumbbells and other portable, more economical equipment. I do bring some equipment with me, however, I also require you to purchase some items. I do this for two reasons. I want to educate you to be able to workout on your own, therefore, you will need equipment. Also, some of the heavier items, I do not bring with me for obvious reasons.
How often should I train with you? Strength training should be done three times per week. This does not mean that you need to see me three times per week. It really depends on you, as an individual, as to how many training sessions you need with me. Some clients I see three or more times per week and other clients I see once every few months. It really depends on you, your form, your ability to self-motivate and what it is you want to acheive.
What is your typical client base? I work with a wide variety of people with a wide variety of reasons. I excel at training the client that wants to lose a little weight and transform their physique. I have a knack for finding the athlete in anyone. I love the feeling of teaching someone that they can do something that they never thought was possible. When a client first realizes visible results…unmatched!
